Review: A Kiss in Time

A Kiss in Time
A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a pretty cute retelling of Sleeping Beauty. It's told with duel narrators: The Princess, and the boy who kisses her awake. Both characters are pretty spoiled and immature in the beginning of the novel which was amusing and refreshing...as it continues on, the characters both grow during their journey. I really liked how the newly awakened Princess had to cope with reemerging in the 21st Century...it's not part of the usual canon. This will probably be a Disney movie sooner rather than later. I only gave it 3 stars (liked it) because it wasn't very deep. The supporting characters not very developed, and it used a lot of cliched stereotypes. Still, I thought it was very fun and light. A great beach read or for when you need a break from major reading.

Review: Will Grayson, Will Grayson

Will Grayson, Will Grayson
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this book so much, I ADORE it. It hit me in the heart, hard. But it also made me laugh out loud in places. It added to my sneaking suspicion that I am most certainly existing in a state of arrested development, though when I consider the authors are not ACTUAL teens I feel a little more justified in relating to these characters so strongly. It also adds to my wondering if I was once a gay teen-age boy in a past life, though I relate to both Will Graysons somewhat equally, gay Will Grayson and straight Will Grayson. Because in the end it's really about honesty... and finding a way to love someone... and finding a way to allow someone to love you back ...and finding a way to stop trying to control future events by refusing to participate in the current ones...And I WISH...I WISH...I had a Tiny Cooper in my life. Everybody should have one. Ahhh, I adore this book. It's charming...but it's deep too.
